ICT

At St. Saviour’s School Ikoyi, we believe that every child deserves the opportunity to explore, create, innovate and thrive in an increasingly digital world. That is why Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is an integral part of our learning journey, beginning in Reception, where our youngest learners are introduced to the exciting world of computing through age-appropriate, engaging and practical experiences. Our ICT curriculum goes beyond teaching children how to use computers. We empower learners to become confident digital citizens, creative problem-solvers, computational thinkers and responsible users of technology. Through a carefully structured blend of digital literacy, coding, robotics and artificial intelligence, we nurture curiosity and equip our pupils with skills that prepare them for the opportunities and challenges of the future.

Our curriculum combines essential digital skills with hands-on learning and technological exploration. Pupils develop proficiency in Microsoft productivity tools, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint, learning to create documents, organise information, analyse data and communicate their ideas through engaging presentations. Through robotics, learners transform ideas into practical solutions using LEGO robotics, Chim:Bit, and Micro:Bit microcontroller boards. They design, build, programme and test their creations, developing logical reasoning, teamwork, resilience and problem-solving skills along the way. Coding is another exciting dimension of our ICT programme. From visual, block-based programming to text-based languages, pupils progress through Scratch Jr, Scratch 3.0, HTML, CSS and Python, supported by interactive learning environments such as Code.org, Discovery Education, Microsoft MakeCode for Micro:Bit and MIT App Inventor. These experiences encourage children to move beyond consuming digital content to creating their own games, animations, websites, applications and interactive projects.

We encourage pupils to think independently, ask meaningful questions, explore their own ideas and develop original solutions before using AI tools to enhance their work. Within age-appropriate learning experiences, they discover how AI can support creativity, research, learning and problem-solving, while also examining its limitations and potential disadvantages, including inaccurate information, bias, overdependence, privacy risks and the importance of protecting personal information. By developing critical thinking and responsible digital habits, we help our learners understand that technology is most valuable when guided by human judgement, creativity, integrity and purpose.

At St. Saviour’s School Ikoyi, we see ICT as more than a subject; it is a gateway to possibility. Whether pupils are creating their first digital document, programming a robot, developing an application or exploring the capabilities of artificial intelligence, every experience is an opportunity to discover new talents and build confidence.

Our goal is to raise a generation of thoughtful digital citizens, imaginative creators and confident innovators who do not simply adapt to the future of technology, but have the knowledge, skills and character to help shape it. At St. Saviour’s School Ikoyi, the future begins with curiosity, grows through creativity and comes alive through innovation.

Science

At St. Saviour’s School Ikoyi, we are committed to nurturing a love for science by encouraging curiosity, exploration and independent thinking in every child. We believe that science plays a vital role in helping pupils understand the world around them and prepare for life in an increasingly scientific and technological society.

Our science curriculum is designed to be engaging, practical and progressive. Pupils are given regular opportunities to take part in hands-on investigations where they ask questions, make predictions and test their ideas. Through these experiences, they develop key scientific enquiry skills such as observing, measuring, recording results and drawing evidence-based conclusions.

We place strong emphasis on active learning, where children are encouraged to share their ideas, think critically and work collaboratively with their peers. Lessons are delivered using a variety of approaches, including group work, independent tasks and the effective use of technology such as iPads and online resources, ensuring that all learners are supported and challenged appropriately.

Our approach also promotes the use of accurate scientific vocabulary, enabling pupils to communicate their understanding clearly and confidently. As they progress through the school, children build on their prior knowledge and are increasingly challenged to deepen their understanding of scientific concepts.

Beyond the classroom, we enrich learning through research opportunities, educational visits and real-life applications of science, helping pupils to see the relevance of their learning in everyday life. We also prioritise safety at all times, ensuring that children understand how to use equipment responsibly and work within a safe and supportive environment.

design & technology

At St. Saviour’s School, Ikoyi, Design & Technology is an engaging, practical and creative subject that encourages children to transform ideas into purposeful creations. Our curriculum takes pupils through a continuous process of conceptualising, designing, making, testing, evaluating and improving their work.

Through a wide range of practical activities, children develop essential skills such as creative thinking, problem-solving, designing, modelling, measuring, making, teamwork and critical evaluation. They are encouraged to explore ideas, experiment with materials and techniques, learn from mistakes and continually improve their designs.

The children are nurtured by a team of highly experienced and versatile teachers who bring creativity, expertise and enthusiasm into the classroom. Through purposeful guidance and hands-on learning experiences, our teachers create an environment where children feel confident to explore, innovate and bring their ideas to life.

Design & Technology also provides meaningful opportunities for pupils to apply their knowledge of Mathematics and Science to real-life situations. By connecting classroom learning with practical challenges, pupils gain a deeper understanding of how concepts such as measurement, forces, structures, materials, energy and geometry are applied in the world around them.

Our aim is to nurture curious, confident and innovative young creators who can think critically, solve problems and turn their ideas into practical solutions. At St. Saviour’s School, we believe that every creation is an opportunity to learn, improve and innovate.
